Update: AirPods are not hard to get any more. They are still $159 at Apple but you can find deals elsewhere, like Costco, or the sweet deal at Amazon.

#ProTip (ding), I am not sure why or how but if you want Apple’s AirPods, try AT&T’s website! We love the AirPods (our review) around here, they have great sound and are really convenient. The problem is when we convince someone they need them, Apple’s lead time is still 6 weeks, 4+ months after release.

Case in point, I had convinced a friend that they would be great for some traveling he has coming up. His wife contacted me 3-4 weeks before his birthday and I had to let her know there wasn’t much I could do. I went to Apple’s website and ordered them, but the delivery was 6 weeks out and still is 3 weeks later. I looked on eBay where they were selling for $100 over the asking price of $159.

5 days before his birthday I wanted to check and see if there were any better options. I knew that there were rumors that they were occasionally available from AT&T, so I visited their site and tried to order. It went through, odd I thought, I am sure I will get a shipment delayed notice. Well much to my surprise, 5 days later I had a pair of AirPods in my mailbox!

Needless to say, I headed over to Apple and canceled my order. I am not sure what AT&T has on Apple, but it is weird. The only thing I can think is that Apple promised AT&T certain quantities and they just haven’t been able to keep up.

If you’re ready for a pair of AirPods, head over to AT&T’s AirPods page and order away. $159, free shipping and you don’t have to be an AT&T customer.

Disclaimer: This worked for me, I can’t guarantee it will work for you, good luck!
