As suspected by many of us in the tech industry, Apple may be finally working toward independence when it comes to the type of processor they use in their desktop and laptop computers. Mark Gurman, of Bloomberg, reported today that he believes Apple will start using their own processor designs for Macintosh computers as early as 2020.
Relying on outside processor platforms has hurt Apple in the past. Over the years, they have relied on Motorola, IBM and, most recently, Intel to supply their processors. Now that they have demonstrated, through their iOS platform, the ability to design and build their own chips, now may be the time to follow suit when it comes to their laptop and desktop computers.
